Game Freak has officially confirmed that Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are last Pokemon RPG that the Nintendo 3DS is going to get.
In an interview with IGN, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon producer Shigeru Ohmori told the site that each Pokemon entry on Nintendo 3DS has shown the full extent of what a Pokemon game could achieve on the console.
The developer is also treating Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon as the ultimate culmination of their work on Nintendo 3DS, thus making both titles Pokemon’s final outing on 3DS.
When we were making Pokemon X and Y, we really were trying to push the 3DS system to its absolute limits – which is what we thought we’d done. But when Sun and Moon came around, we completely redesigned the system, and actually ended up pushing the 3DS even further to what we thought was the most we could draw out of it.
With Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon,” explains Ohmori, “we’ve tried to eke that out more and really, really push the system to its absolute limits, and we’re now feeling that perhaps this is the maximum of what we can get out. So we’re really treating Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon as the culmination of our work with the 3DS system.
It’s really no surprise given that Game Freak has started working on the next Pokemon RPG on Nintendo Switch, scheduled to launch in 2018 and beyond.
Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon launches November 17, 2017 worldwide.
