PVP Battles Successfully Brought Back Lapsed Players To Pokemon GO

Last year, Niantic and The Pokemon Company released PvP Battles, a highly requested feature in Pokemon GO.

In a Gamasutra interview, Niantic’s Rob Giusti revealed PvP battles were purposely designed to reacquire players who had stopped playing Pokemon GO. Lots of effort was put into it and the plan paid off – Pokemon GO’s daily and monthly active users, retention rates, play sessions, and positive social media coverage received a huge boost.

“What we’re really looking for most of all was to increase our number of players. We really wanted to reacquire the lapsed players that hadn’t launched the game in the while.”
