Last year, we covered the story of the “Animal Crossing Grandma” who became famous for her impressive 3500+ hour playtime on Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
For those who may not be familiar, 87-year old grandmother Audrey originally went viral among the Animal Crossing community after her grandson shared a picture of her 3500+ hour New Leaf save file on Twitter. She has since acquired a Switch in preparation for Animal Crossing: New Horizons when it launches later this week.
Today, eagle-eyed fans have spotted what could be a tribute to Audrey in that very same game. As pointed out by koolwala on Reddit, Nintendo World Report‘s review footage for Animal Crossing: New Horizons features a new wolf character named “Audie”, which is the name Audrey used when starting up her town in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
Although it could be just a coincidence, perhaps one of the developers or translators is well aware of Audrey’s dedication to the game, and decided to sneak a little tribute to her in the form of this new villager.
