Random: Cheap Clones Of LEGO NES Set Featuring Mario, Duck-Hunt And Contra Surface Online

Last year, Nintendo and LEGO collaborated to release a LEGO NES Set, a blocky throwback to the classic days of gaming including a LEGO NES, TV, and even a Super Mario cartridge that could be used to “play” Mario through some clever engineering.

As with most LEGO sets, third-party companies unaffiliated with Nintendo have begun producing their own, cheaper alternatives to the official product. Over on Twitter, user Takashi S. Omoto showed off a few of these clones, which he described as “charming, if janky”.

Notably, some of these clones go a step further than the original, producing new “cartridges” for games like Duck Hunt and Contra, which can be “played” in the same way Mario can.

That said, since these are not officially licensed LEGO or Nintendo products, they are likely not compatible with the LEGO Super Mario figure like the original is. That said, the idea of different cartridges for different games seems quite interesting, and we would not be surprised if LEGO officially starts producing them for its own line at some point.
