The Version 2.0. update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons adds a number of brand new items to the game, one of which contains an interesting reference to a popular messaging app for gaming.
The item in question is a gaming computer or setup, which comes in a few different colors through customization. One of the customizations is a cute pink and beige number with some familiar looking interfaces on the screens. As pointed out by @fluffysmolcloud on Twitter, one screen appears to show a Discord interface, while the others appear to show a water-gun shooting game similar to Splatoon.
Although the Splatoon reference is debatable, the Discord reference seems a little more obvious given how closely the screen matches Discord’s interface. The item even caught the attention of Discord themselves, who posted the following Tweet commenting on the item:
This has in turn led to some debate and speculation on whether or not this could mean that an official Discord app might be heading to the Switch, although it seems a bit more likely that the screen was just a fun reference included by the Animal Crossing development team. We will be sure to report back with any updates as they come.
