Following the shift to Nintendo Switch, Pokemon games have been heavily criticized for having sub-par graphics compared to other popular franchises, with Pokemon Sword/Shield and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl being among the most singled out for the textures, animation, and artstyle.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the newly released Pokemon Scarlet And Violet have come under fire with similar criticisms. Much like Sword And Shield‘s infamous tree, there is one specific element of the game that has come under fire on social media. This element is the animation that plays when the player is eating a sandwich. As pointed out by Twitter users @DoobusGoobus and @Starjeti, this animation looks “tacky” and does not seem fitting for a multi-billion dollar franchise like Pokemon.
By comparison, the animation that plays in Pokemon Sword And Shield when eating curry looks quite a bit better, even though they are of similar levels of simplicity:
