Random: Here’s A Closer Look At The Cancelled “Kid Kirby” Game Project For The SNES

Following the reveal of more footage from the cancelled Kirby Gamecube game, another one of the pink puff’s scrapped endeavors has been brought back into the internet spotlight.

The game in question is Kid Kirby, a proposed spin-off for the series starring a younger version of the titular character. As documented by the aptly named @KidKirbyArchive, the game was worked on by DMA Design, the company that would eventually become Rockstar North. It was planned to be used with the SNES mouse peripheral, with gameplay involving flicking Kid Kirby across the screen. However, due to sluggish development and the poor sales of the SNES mouse, the game was ultimately cancelled before release.

That said, thanks to the hard work of the KidKirbyArchive as well as Ex-DMA Design dev Steve Hammond, we now have a treasure trove of interesting trivia about the game and its development. This includes renders of characters like “Prince Dedede”, sketches of Kirby using “kidspeak” consisting of fruit and vegetables, as well as a document detailing the proposed story for the game.
