Random: Koopa Troopa Dance From New Super Mario Bros. Wii Becomes A Tiktok Meme

We have some strange news coming via the social media app Tiktok, where a rather unlikely character has become one of its latest trending memes.

The meme in question is the Koopa Troopa Dance, referring specifically to the ones that happen in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. To give context, in this game, enemies that Mario encounters in the level will dance to the background music during specific points in the song. Goombas will do a little hop, while Koopa Troopas will face the player and sway from side to side. This action occurs no matter what is happening within the game itself, including when Mario is stomping on them.

As documented by Know Your Meme, this phenomenon became an ongoing meme on Tiktok after user koopatroopa_official posted a clip of the dance on the platform on October 26th 2022. This video went viral, accumulating over 19 million views at the time of this writing.

This in turn led to other users creating memes about how Koopa Troopas are compelled to dance to the beat, even if it would be inappropriate or bizarre for their situation. For example, Tiktok user notsoepic0 posted a video titled “A koopa at his wife’s funeral”, which starts off with notsoepic0 grieving for the loss with Mario music in the background, before abruptly dancing at the relevant portion of the song.
