As part of Sonic The Hedgehog‘s 30th Anniversary celebrations, it seems SEGA has decided to make him into a Vtuber.
For those who may not be aware, “Vtuber” is short for “Virtual Youtuber” and typically refers to streamers who conduct activities using a 3D model avatar or identity, popularized by the likes of Kizuna Ai and Hololive. SEGA’s take on the concept uses an animated 3D model avatar of Sonic The Hedgehog, voiced by his Japanese voice actor Jun’ichi Kanemaru.
Presumably, SEGA intends to have this Sonic Vtuber make more appearances in promo videos and other content related to his 30th Anniversary. We will be sure to report back on any interesting developments as they come.
