Over the past few weeks, the monster taming survival crafting game Palworld has been dominating online discussion due to its massive success as well as the strong resemblance its monsters have to existing Pokemon. Discussion has been so heated that The Pokemon Company was forced to put out a statement about the title.
Making the rounds on social media is another comparison post for the two games, this time featuring an unused “Pal” that is hidden away in Palworld‘s data. This Pal is referred to in the code as “DarkMutant” and basically looks like a black “evil” version of Mega Mewtwo Y, one of Mewtwo’s Mega Evolutions from Pokemon X and Y.
The side-by-side comparison made by user LewChube shows just how similar both of them are, albeit DarkMutant appears to have less expressive animations.
DarkMutant is not the only unreleased Pal discovered in the game. Others include one named “Dragostrophe“, which looks like a black version of Pokemon Black‘s mascot Pokemon Reshiram, and “Boltmane“, which looks like an alternate take on the Pokemon Luxray.
As these three Pals seem to have much stronger resemblance to existing Pokemon compared to the others, many speculate that they were ultimately cut to avoid getting the game in more trouble than it already is. That said, PocketPair has mentioned they plan on adding more Pals to Palworld in future updates, so its possible that these three are being saved for those as opposed to being scrapped.
