Earlier this week, a Web 3 company by the name of Polium revealed the “world’s first” NFT-based console, which they named the Polium One.
Described as “a multi-chain console” for Web 3 Gaming, the console will supposedly release in 2024, and feature both existing and exclusive games. As you could probably guess, it will also be equipped with features allowing players to buy and trade NFTs as well as in-game items. Polium also shared a concept image of the console which you can view below:
Although the concepthas already drawn much criticism due to the increasingly plummeting reception of NFTs, many fans were also quick to point out that the logo being used is strikingly similar to the one used by the Gamecube, leading to a great deal of mockery and accusations online.
The comments about the logo were so great that Polium even went as far as to issue a statement denying the accusations of copying the Gamecube logo, stating that “multiple companies” use a similar logo. That said, it seems they will indeed be switching to a new one that’s more “original”.
Polium’s claims are not entirely without merit, as others have pointed out that the logo looks more similar to the ones used by Minecraft hosting service PebbleHost as well as gaming publisher PQube. Whether this absolves Polium of guilt or only serves as more damning evidence will likely depend on perspective.
