Last year, we reported on an auction surrounding one of the rare ‘Pikachu Illustrator’ Pokemon TCG cards – which pulled in a whopping $195,000 USD from the top bidder. Well, another one of the cards recently made its way to the auction house again, and has now raked in even bigger bucks!
According to Japanese dealer ZenPlus, this freshly-auctioned copy of the card just sold for around 25,000,000 yen, or roughly $234,000 USD. It bears noting that this card was certified as PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator) Mint 9 condition – meaning that it is in “superb condition” with just a single flaw.
For those out of the loop: the card (pictured above) was an exclusive prize for the winners of a 1998 CoroCoro Comic Illustration contest in Japan, with only 39 copies in existence. This makes it one of the rarest TCG cards ever – especially in mint form.
Will more copies of this expensive collectible end up at the auctioning table, in the future? We’ll report back if we ever hear more!
