Earlier this year, we reported on an auction surrounding one of the rare ‘Pikachu Illustrator’ Pokemon TCG cards. The auction was originally estimated to pull in around $100,000 – but it looks like the card raked in much more!
Auctioneer website Invaluable has confirmed that the card sold for around $195,000 USD, almost doubling its original estimated value. There’s no word on who bought and sold the cards per se – but we can imagine that both parties are pretty happy about the exchange!
For those out of the loop: the card was an exclusive prize for the winners of the 1998 CoroCoro Comic Illustration contest in Japan, with only 39 in existence. This makes it one of the rarest TCG cards ever – especially in mint form.
What rare TCG cards would you grab if you had $200,000 to spare? Feel free to share with us in the comments below!
