During former Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime’s lecture at Cornell, Reggie briefly touched on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
Wii U, Nintendo’s home console before the successful Nintendo Switch, was seen as a failure by many people in the industry. Though Nintendo leaders have never called the Wii U a failure despite the disastrous sales, Reggie acknowledged that the console failed during his lecture.
Reggie used an interesting term to describe the Wii U – “failure forward”. What that means is it was necessary for Wii U to fail in order for the Nintendo Switch, a completely new concept, to succeed.
