Reggie Talks About Nintendo’s Holiday Strategy: 3DS, Switch, Super Smash Bros & Pokemon

Despite a dry year, Nintendo will still be charging full-steam ahead for the end of 2018.

In a recent Kotaku interview, Nintendo of America’s president Reggie Fils-Aime spoke at length about the company’s battle plans for the holiday season. With a new Smash game incoming and the 3DS doing surprisingly well, Reggie was fairly confident that Nintendo would achieve its projected goals.

Here are some highlights from the interview:

3DS

3DS has had growth year-on-year for the first three-quarters of the year in the Americas
Reggie certainly hopes the 3DS has many more years ahead of it

Switch

Reggie says October, November, and December are critical to Nintendo hitting 20 million Switch units sold this fiscal year.
For the first 12 months of availability, Nintendo Switch was the best-selling system of all time in the US, and the goal is to continue that trend.
Nintendo wants to be in a position coming out of the holidays where they can be proud of their results compared to the Wii.
Reggie says third-party support on Switch has been quite strong.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The hardware bundle for Smash Bros Ultimate is “effectively sold out”
Reggie says Sakurai will continue to tweak the different characters until launch and even past launch
Reggie would have loved for Smash Bros. Ultimate to come out earlier in the year, as December is a challenging month.

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee
