That’s a lot of DLC.
The discovery was made by Mizumi, the modder responsible for the Waluigi & Shadow mods for Smash Ultimate. According to him, one of the game files for Ultimate’s “World of Light” mode contains 16 dummy slots, one of which is taken by Pirahna Plant. The fact that Pirahna Plant occupies one of these dummy slots seems to suggest that they are for DLC fighters. However, Mizumi did not make any hard claims in his original tweet.
If these dummy slots are indeed for DLC Fighters, this could mean that there are 10 more DLC Fighters coming after Pirahna Plant, Joker, and the remaining unannounced characters in the Fighter’s Pass. On the other hand, the data could also just be future-proofing in case more DLC plans are made, and is not evidence that Nintendo actually intends to produce more DLC beyond what has already been announced.
Regardless, only time will tell what the future holds for Smash Ultimate’s DLC lineup. We will bring more news as it comes.
