Rumor: Leaked Pokemon X/Y Design Materials Seemingly Reveal Scrapped Pokemon Designs, Cut Features, And More

Earlier this week, Game Freak was hit by a massive data breach which reportedly included several internal design materials for past Pokemon games.

Among these allegedly leaked materials are design documents for Pokemon X and Y, revealing a wide variety of scrapped Pokemon designs, cut features, and other prototype content. Among the most intriguing bits of info are a Custom Gym feature, as well as the original plans for the mysterious character AZ.

You can check out a summary of the leaks below, sourced via CentroLeaks

Mega Evolution

  • Originally referred to as “Super Evolution”
  • Mega Jynx was indeed planned for the game, but eventually cut.
  • References to a “Mewthree” and “Mewfour” are present, which likely ended up becoming Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y.
  • Several scrapped Mega Evolution designs were shown, mostly ones for the original Kanto Starter Trio, as well as one for Mega Mewtwo which contains elements from both of the Legendary’s final Mega Evolutions.

Pokemon Designs

  • Flabebe, Floette, and Florges initially looked more Fairy-like, with few flower-like features.
  • Noibat was intended to have different colors depending on where it was caught.
  • Furfrou was the first Pokemon designed for the game, and was considered to have a “shaved” trim without any fur.
  • Scrapped Pokemon
    • A Peanut that evolved into a bipedal plant lizard
    • A 2-stage Chameleon Pokemon
    • A 2-stage fossil resembling a Cassowary
    • A Flamingo Pokemon
    • A Pokemon that resembled a whale balancing a plate on its head
    • A 2-stage Diving Beetle Pokemon
    • A 4th Mythical codenamed “Tettou” (Steel Tower), was a Steel/Electric type

Cut Features and Story

  • A Southern Kalos area, which included 2 Towns, 2 Cities, 4 Dungeons, and 8 Routes
  • An island called “Battle Island”
  • The Soaring Mechanic was originally planned for X/Y, but was eventually cut and used for ORAS. Sky Battles are a remnant of this feature.
  • The “Ultimate Weapon” was initially planned to be a living “vessel” taken over by a virus or microbe.
  • AZ was originally conceived as the leader of Team Flare, and his goal was to eradicate humanity and replace them with his descendants, who he believed would create a better world.
    • Lysandre was not mentioned in these early design documents.
  • The Pokemon Village was originally inhabited by Ditto that transformed into humans, players could meet Ditto imposters of other characters there.
  • A Hatching Facility was planned where players could hatch multiple eggs at once.
  • A “Custom Gym” feature was planned
    • Players create their own original gyms and share them online.
    • Other players can attempt to conquer these gyms.
    • Once a gym is conquered, the gym leader (an NPC version of the player) can join the player’s gym.
    • The gym leader can be placed as a member of their original gym

Notably, this leaked info appears to contradict a famous rumor that spread back in 2019, which claimed that the plot involved aliens. It seems likely then that this alien rumor has turned out to be an elaborate hoax, at least until more leaked info surfaces. That said, as with all rumors of this nature, we caution readers to take the info with a grain of salt.
