Following the massive success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, a new rumor has surfaced about the next Nintendo franchise that could be getting an animated film adaptation in the future.

This rumor comes via film critic and industry insider Jeff Sneider, speaking on a recent episode of The Hot Mic podcast. According to Sneider, Universal Pictures is closing in on a “big deal” to develop a Legend Of Zelda movie as the “next big Illumination-Nintendo franchise”. The Legend Of Zelda is one of the most popular choices for Nintendo’s next big movie adaptation among fans, with even the series’ developers expressing interest in the idea.

Of course, at the time of this writing, Nintendo has yet to officially confirm that such plans are in the works, so we caution readers to take this rumor with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
