Last week, a reddit user “NextHandheld” claimed to have seen and held the rumored Switch 2, providing a plethora of details about the mysterious new console.
Since then, news outlet The Verge has allegedly made contact with NextHandheld, and claimed to have seen persuasive proof that the leaks are legitimate. The proof in question are reportedly photos of the actual Switch 2 dock and the guardrails which house the joy-cons, although they did not share the pictures in their report.
The report goes on to talk about some of the Switch 2’s supposed specs, mostly recapping what NextHandheld claimed on Reddit:
- Switch 2 dock features the same logo as the Switch, but with the number 2 alongside it
- No new ports on the dock
- Joy-Con rail section contains no rail, and is instead a long, rounded, hollow area, this area has a 13-pin connector that sticks out so it can slot into the Joy-Con
- Physical magnetic click when you attach the Joy-Con
- Much larger button on the controller that’s physically connected to a magnet, you press this button to release the Joy-Con
- Once again claimed that the Joy-Con will use magnetic Hall effect thumbsticks
- U-shaped rail of a kickstand
- Dock has big feet around back
- Dock feet are positioned so it can lie down horizontally without blocking a set of vents
- Dock is rated for 60W, while the Switch 2 is rated for 45W
- Original Switch had a 39W charger for both docked and handheld modes, for up to 18W
- Will launch in dark grey, then followed by a white model
- One model themed after a Switch 2 game
- Another confirmation of a second USB-C port on the top of the Switch 2
That said, we still caution readers to take this information with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
