Rumor: Nintendo Shelved A Sequel To 1-2-Switch After It “Tested Horribly”

Back when the Switch was first launched, one of its flagship titles was a party game called 1-2-Switch, a quirky title which had players use the Joy-con controllers to face off in a variety of mini-games.

Although the game received mixed reviews, it apparently did well enough that Nintendo was considering a sequel. According to Fanbyte writer Imran Khan, multiple sources familiar with the project have said that Nintendo has been sitting on a sequel to the party game called “Everybody’s 1-2-Switch”, which was greenlit after the original game sold 3.45 million copies.

According to these sources, the game was intended to be similar to the Jackbox Party Pack series, and would have allowed up to 100 players to use their smartphones to compete in a game show of minigame challenges, hosted by a man in a rubber horse mask simply known as “Horse”. The mini-games reportedly included Musical Chairs, Bingo, Spin The Bottle, among others.

Despite sounding good on paper, the sources go on to reveal that the game did “horribly” with playtesters. Many of them complained that the mini-games were “boring” and “tedious”, making them unwilling to even complete an entire round. Reception was so poor that many trusted employees believed releasing the game would “damage the company’s reputation as a great software developer”, which is seemingly the reason Nintendo has been unwilling to release the game even after all these years.

At the time of this writing, the ultimate fate of Everybody’s 1-2-Switch remains murky. Khan’s sources have claimed that there are multiple proposals swirling around at Nintendo about what to do with the game. Some have proposed launching it as an add on for the Switch Online service, while others believe that they should launch it as a full-priced game anyway despite the potential for backlash.

Whatever the case, it is likely we will never get the full story until Nintendo officially reveals the game, provided it even exists at all.
