Rumor: Sharp Reportedly Working On LCD Display For “New Console” Amidst Speculation About Switch Successor

Following recent discussion about the potential successor to the Nintendo Switch, Bloomberg has published a new report adding fuel to the rampant speculation.

The info shared comes via a financial results earnings call from Electronics manufacturer Sharp, specifically a comment from its CEO Robert Wu. According to Bloomberg, Wu stated that the company was currently working with an unnamed game company on a new console, with plans to ” launch pilot LCD-panel production lines” this fiscal year for the device. However, Wu was careful not to mention any details that could identify the game company in question.

“I can’t comment on any details regarding specific customers. But as to a new gaming console, we’ve been involved in its R&D stage”

Sharp has a history of working with Nintendo, having helped provide LCD displays for the DS as well as assist in Switch assembly. This has led to speculation that the device they are working on is the successor to the Nintendo Switch, although there has yet to be any official mention of this from Nintendo.

As with all reports of this nature, we caution readers to take this info with a grain of salt. It is entirely possible that the game company Sharp is working with isn’t Nintendo, and their project has nothing to do with the Switch or its potential successor.
