It looks like Nintendo might finally be gearing up for something Super on the Switch.
As seen above, a new FCC Filing has revealed what looks to be an official SNES controller, with the serial number ‘HAC-042’. That number may not seem like much at first glance, but it’s actually a common code for official Switch-related peripherals (such as the Pro Controller)!
You can take a look at the listing at this mirror site over here. One key detail you’ll notice is that Nintendo Co. Ltd made the filing – so it’s not just some third-party design.
All of this could be pointing at the eventual announcement of SNES titles for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. After all, dataminers previously discovered references to 22 SNES games in Nintendo Switch Online, before Nintendo scrubbed that data off the service. Wireless NES controllers also accompanied the NES games on Nintendo Switch Online, so the likelihood of this new controller launching with SNES games on the service seems high.
As with all unconfirmed information, however, we urge our readers to take this information with a grain of salt. While FCC filings typically mean that products are heading to the market, Nintendo hasn’t actually announced anything official yet.
We’ll report back when we hear more. Stay tuned.
