For the past few weeks, supposed mockups of the Switch’s successor have been circulating from various accessory manufacturers, who claim to have used them to prepare accessories for the console’s eventual release.
Accessory maker dbrand is the latest to join in on the trend, with a translucent case they call the “Switch 2 Killswitch“. Promotional material for the product features a rotating 3D image with a “Switch 2” console visible inside. Unlike previous leaks, this model has red and blue Joycons instead of white.
When approached for comment by Insider-Gaming, dbrand’s CEO Adam Ijaz claimed that the video shows off the actual design of the Switch 2, in a departure from previous manufacturers who said they were using a mockup.
“That is correct: it is the Switch 2 with our Killswitch case on it (similar in principle to our Killswitch for the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and ROG Ally X).
Separately, Ijaz also provided The Verge with the following details about the device:
- Larger and taller than Switch OLED
- Roughly the same thickness
- 270mm wide, 116mm tall, and 14mm thick
- Console portion takes up 200mm worth of that width
- Kickstand will measure around half the console’s height at around 55mm
- Diagonal measurement of the cover points to an 8-inch screen
- Joy-Cons are “magnetically attached” with an “an ejection button” that’s on the back of the Joy-Cons near the top
- Second square button under the Home button has a “C” printed on it
- Joysticks stand 6.27mm tall
- D-pad and ABXY buttons protrude by 1.57mm
- 180mm wide kickstand
- Back triggers that extend 14.1mm
- “Genuinely unsure” about the release date, but are working toward a late March or early April release for their case
- Specifics on the dock or LCD/LED screen are not known
dbrand has a somewhat tumultuous relationship with Nintendo, having previously directed obscene messages to the company while selling their unofficial Switch decals and other Nintendo adjacent products. As such, we caution readers to take this info with a grain of salt, as it may be another marketing stunt by the company to draw eyes on their accessories.
