Samsung Shows Off Switch-Like Foldable Game Console Concept
During this year’s Mobile World Congress convention, tech giant Samsung showed off an interesting yet familiar concept for their own handheld game console.
As shared by outlet T3, the device on display is labelled the “Flex Gaming” device. It looks quite similar to a Nintendo Switch, but adds a new level of portability by incorporating a folding OLED screen. While there are already many smartphone models that incorporate a folding glass screen, we haven’t seen it applied to a handheld gaming console yet.
As you can see from the image above, the console has a similar overall form factor to the Switch, and somewhat ingeniously has the thumbsticks fold into a hole with the face buttons circling around it. Being able to fold down the middle will undoubtably make the console more portable than other current handhelds, which push the limits of “portability” with their size.
That said, it seems Samsung isn’t quite ready to jump into the market just yet. According to T3, Samsung told them that it was just a demo showing off what game console manufacturers could do with Samsung’s foldable OLED technology. Whether we will eventually see one of the major players adopt such an idea remains to be seen.
