SEGA Announces Plans For An Official Store In Tokyo Japan

SEGA has announced they are planning to open an official store for their products.

Speaking to VGC, SEGA’s transmedia boss Justin Scarpon revealed that an official SEGA store in Shibuya’s Parco department complex, the same building as the official Nintendo Store, official Capcom Store, and the Pokemon Center. According to Scarpon, the aim is to put SEGA the brand “in front of consumers”, bringing it to the same level as Sonic The Hedgehog. A similar store is also in the works for Shanghai.

“If you go to retail today, you don’t see ‘Sega’ enough. For example, we’re opening a Sega store next summer in [Tokyo’s] Parco. There will be a Sega store. We’re also going to be doing a similar project in Shanghai, where we’ll have a store there as well via a partner.

“It’s really exciting and we need to do a lot more of that, because Sega is a consumer brand that is surprisingly not in front of consumers enough. Sonic is, but Sega isn’t. That’s one of 35 things I’m working on right now!”

This move is presumably part of a wider push to bring more of the company’s IPs to the forefront, alongside revivals for their lesser known franchises such as Super Monkey Ball, Crazy Taxi, and more.
