SEGA has officially revealed the special “new project” that they teased last week.
The new project is none other than a SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive Mini 2, a follow-up to the original miniturized retro console that they released back in 2019. This new version of the mini-console is not only more compact, but will include 50 games built into the system, including several from the SEGA CD as well as “bonus games” that were never on the console before.
At the moment, the following games are confirmed:
- Cartridge Titles
- Bonanza Bros.
- Fantasy Zone
- Magical Taruruuto-kun
- Shining in the Darkness
- Thunder Force IV (Lightening Force: Quest for the Darkstar)
- Virtua Racing
- SEGA / Mega CD Titles
As with the previous iteration, the SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive Mini 2 will also have a separate Genesis / Mega Drive Tower Mini 2 add-on, which will include mini cartridges, as well as mini versions of the console’s infamous peripherals. They will also be holding several additional livestreams to talk more about the new console:
- June 3 at 20:00 JST – “The Successor to the Legend” – This was the announcement live stream, which is now over.
- June 24 at 20:00 JST – “Fulfiller of Dreams”
- Mid-July – “The Song of Life”
- Early August – “Whereabouts of Light and Darkness”
- Late August – “The Place of Oath”
You can catch up on the full livestream below, along with some additional commercials for the product:
