SEGA Reportedly Considering Netflix-Like Game Subscription Service

The past few years have seen the rise of a number of Netflix-like game subscription services, most notably the XBox Game Pass, Playstation Plus, and to a lesser extent, the Switch Online games catalogue.

In an interview with BBC, SEGA president Shuji Utsumi seemingly confirmed that SEGA was looking into launching a similar service. Ustumi reportedly said that such services were “very interesting” and that the company was “evaluating options”, although they could not disclose anything at the moment.

We’re thinking something – and discussing something – we cannot disclose right now.

Recently, SEGA delisted a number of classic titles on multiple storefronts, which could be in preparation for the launch of this supposed subscription service. That said, SEGA already has some of their back catalogue listed on the Switch Online Expansion Pack as well, although its possible that these too will be removed once SEGA’s own service is ready.
