SEGA Says They Are Not Open To Acquisitions From Microsoft Or Other Companies

The past few years have seen a number of high profile company acquisitions in the gaming space, most notably Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda and its ongoing attempt to acquire Activision Blizzard.

During the Microsoft’s recent court case with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding said acquisition of Activision, some internal documents revealed that the gaming giant was planning to acquire a number of other major developers and publishers, including Bunige, IO Interactive, and SEGA. According to these documents, Microsoft believed that SEGA’s catalogue would be a good for expanding their global reach, particularly into Asia.

In a statement given to Bloomberg, Sega’s co-chief operating officer Shuji Utsumi dismissed this news, stating that although SEGA is “very close” with Microsoft, they are currently not open to acquisitions by any other companies. He declined to comment on whether Microsoft had already made an offer previously.
