It looks like major developer Sega might be up to something magical behind the scenes.
The company has apparently filed a trademark for the name ‘Nights Dream Wheel‘ within Japan on 23 July 2019. Namely, the trademark covers ‘Programs for home video game consoles, electronic circuits storing programs for home video game consoles, magnetic tapes, magnetic disks, optical disks, ROM cartridges, etc.‘
While it’s too early to say, the trademark could refer to a new entry in the much-beloved NiGHTS series. The original NiGHTS into Dreams released in 1996, with a sequel only releasing for the Wii in 2007. Since then, the series has been lying somewhat dormant.
As at the time of writing, Sega has not actually announced any new NiGHTS-related projects. We’ll report back if anything comes out of this new trademark. Stay tuned!
