While The Super Mario Bros. Movie is officially landing in many global theaters this week, many fans of the heroic plumber have also been clamoring for a new mainline Mario adventure ever since Super Mario Odyssey first debuted on Nintendo Switch in 2017. While Nintendo has been radio silent on the matter so far, the information drought could be at an end soon.
During a recent interview with entertainment news site Variety, Super Mario series creator Shigeru Miyamoto was asked about when fans can expect to hear about the next Mario series title. While Miyamoto did not divulge any juicy secrets about what Nintendo might be planning behind the scenes, he did ask fans to “please stay tuned to future Nintendo Directs”.
Here’s his comment from the interview in question:
Of course, this is hardly a confirmation that we’ll get any major Super Mario news any time soon – but Miyamoto’s gleeful snicker at the end of his comment is certainly an encouraging sign. We’ll just have to wait and see what’s next for the plumber in red.
