Some Japanese Are Angry With My Nintendo Store After Retailers Started Directly Selling Switch 2 Consoles
Anger is simmering over My Nintendo Store Japan’s pre-order lottery for Nintendo Switch 2, which has had four rounds so far and many customers failing to secure a Nintendo Switch 2.
The main reason for the anger is because a few Japanese retailers, such as Yodobashi Camera and TSUTAYA, started directly selling the Nintendo Switch 2 to customers at store locations on a first-come-first-served basis. This is a departure from the pre-order lotteries that have been going on since April 2025.
Reactions on Twitter suggest that users are unhappy with how they’ve failed to secure a Switch 2 through four My Nintendo Store lotteries which have strict requirements, and yet these retailers have secured adequate stock to carry out direct sales of the console. They say this is a failing on Nintendo’s part, as Nintendo should have routed the stock to customers on My Nintendo Store first, considering that it had 2.2 million people registering their interest in the first round.
Some felt that they have been “backstabbed” by Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, who promised to scale up production and meet demand.
Here are some reactions:
“What’s with the pre-order lottery on My Nintendo Store? As expected, Nintendo is incompetent”
“If there are stores that can directly sell the console, then they should release out that stock to My Nintendo Store applicants…”
“There are people who failed to secure the console in the first four lotteries on My Nintendo Store and now there are consoles being directly sold in stores. This is ridiculous!”
“The direct sales of Switch 2 consoles in stores is really disgusting. They can’t even fulfill the demand on My Nintendo Store, what is going on?”
Japanese media suggest that direct sales at some Japanese retailers are a sign that Nintendo has managed to secure enough stock for Nintendo Switch 2, and that the direct sales are a “good opportunity” for them to purchase the system.
