Following the official reveal last week, SEGA has shared more details about Sonic Frontiers, including its plot and development team.
As reported by Polygon, Sonic Frontiers is described as an “open-zone experience”, by Sonic Team, and will be helmed by producer Sachiko Kawamura and director Morio Kishimoto. Ian Flynn, best known for writing Archie’s and IDW’s Sonic The Hedgehog comic book series, will also reportedly be handling the game’s story.
According to Sonic Stadium, Polygon also apparently shared a brief synopsis of the plot, which has since been removed from the article:
“In Sonic Frontiers, Sonic’s long-time nemesis Dr. Eggman discovers an ancient technology on the Starfall Islands and installs his AI program SAGE to hack in and take over. But there is more to this technology than he realizes, and unintended consequences immediately come to bear. Sonic must race against time to discover the truth, save his friends and maybe even save himself at the same time.”
Notably, the official synopsis is not incompatible with the rumors that have been circulating about the game since earlier this year, although no specifics have been explicitly confirmed. Stay tuned for more information as it comes.
