Yesterday, early reports estimated that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie could potentially rake in $55 million during its first four days in US theaters – which would make one of the best debuts for a videogame-based film. Well, it looks those estimates might go even higher now!
Owing to strong weekend performance, studio projections are now placing the movie’s earnings at $53.99 million in its first 3 days. This is right behind Detective Pikachu, which pulled int $54.3 million in its first three days.
However, further projections also place the Sonic movie’s first four days of sales at a whopping $64.3 million now! This would push it way past Detective Pikachu – which pulled in $58 million during its first four days in theaters last year.
This is definitely quite the turnaround ever since the movie’s disastrous first trailer and subsequent redesign! We’ll report back when we hear more in the future.
