Last week, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 premiered in theaters in many international markets, slightly ahead of its US release date of April 8th.
The highly anticipated follow-up to the first Sonic The Hedgehog movie has proven to be a big success on its opening weekend, grossing around $25.5 million across 31 markets according to Box Office Mojo. Furthermore, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 also topped the box office charts in many regions, including “the UK ($6.4 million), France ($5.7 million), Spain ($2.2 million), Germany ($2.1 million), and Australia ($2.8 million)”.
According to Deadline, distributer Paramount is apparently “delighted” with these results for the Sonic sequel, which are growing at a 2% faster rate compared to the first movie. The film has also been doing extremely well against its closest competitor, the vampire superhero move Morbius, performing much more strongly in every regions where they premiered at the same time.
As the film has yet to open in the US, Sonic The Hedgehog 2‘s domination of the global box office is likely only just beginning. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
