Earlier this weekend, we reported that Sonic the Hedgehog was right behind Detective Pikachu in terms of its US earnings. Well, as of today, the movie has officially ditched its runner-up position!
Sonic the Hedgehog has now earned $145.8 million at the domestic US box office, surpassing Detective Pikachu ($144.1 million) to become the highest-grossing video game movie of all time domestically! This is even more impressive in light of the growing coronavirus outbreak – which should rightfully be discouraging fans from visiting the cinema.
While Paramount hasn’t actually confirmed a sequel, they would be hard-pressed not to make one with such numbers! Remember, the movie hasn’t even launched in China or Japan as at the time of writing.
