South Africa Nintendo eShop Prices Increase By 24%

Last week, Nintendo of Europe informed South African Nintendo Switch owners that prices for all first party games on the eShop will increase from January 21.

Thanks to NintendoSoup reader OpticFusion, we now know how much prices have increased. Most first party games such as Super Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2 have seen their prices raised by 24%. They used to cost R750 (USD54.05) but now retail for R920 (USD66.30).

Perhaps more shocking are the price increases for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Both titles, which retailed for R750 (USD54.05), now cost over R1000 (USD72). That’s a 33% increase in price. It is unclear why these two games are being treated differently from the rest.

As you can see, the increase in prices are not a good thing for South African Nintendo Switch owners, as they now have to pay 24% to 33% more for their games.
