Just like in Japan, it looks like Nintendo’s Switch console might be giving Sony’s PS4 one heck of a fight in Spain.
According to Spanish outlet Vandal, Nintendo Switch sales pretty much doubled those of PS4 sales in the country during the week of May 6 – 12. While retailers reported selling around 6,000 PS4 units, the Switch blazed way ahead with a total of 12,000 units moving into consumers’ hands! Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Xbox One sputtered along with just 800 units sold in Spain for that same week.
For now, some are attributing this trend to the First Communion in Spain, a traditional rite-of-passage for many young children in Spain. During the festivities, many of these children receive gifts from their parents – of which many could have been Nintendo Switch consoles, given their current popularity.
If this is truly the case, then Nintendo seems to be finding a strong audience in Spain’s kids. We’ll just have to wait and see if next week’s figures are just as impressive.
