Last year, Square Enix mysteriously registered new trademarks for Chocobo Grand Prix – a 1999 PlayStation game that saw players racing with cutesy creatures from the Final Fantasy franchise. While fans could only speculate about a possible return of the racing title back then, it looks like some new developments behind the scenes are now fueling those hopes!
Square Enix has now also registered trademarks for “Chocobo GP” (the game’s shortened title) in Australia, Canada, and Europe – as recently as February 26 and March 1 this year. Here’s a screenshot for reference:
Of course, all of this could just be Square Enix renewing its trademark for the title. It should be noted, however, that Square Enix previously had past plans to revive the franchise with Chocobo Racing 3D on the Nintendo 3DS – although the project halted in 2013.
