Over 20 years of debate and speculation finally comes to an end.
Ever since Super Mario 64 was first released in 1996, one specific line of dialogue has been the subject of much confusion and discussion. We are of course talking about the line Mario utters when he tosses Bowser off the stage during the final boss fight.
Suggestions ranged from relatively tame to quite questionable, but nobody could quite agree on what the line actually said. In spite of these debates, nobody who worked on the game took the time to address the issue…until now.
Answering a question from a fan on Twitter, Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario himself, stepped in to finally put an end to the fandom’s quest for answers.
That said, despite having direct confirmation from the person who said the line, it seems that some fans still don’t quite hear what Mario says as “So long Kinga Bowser”. Rather than take a position ourselves, we leave you with the following video from Gamexplain where you can hear the line for yourself, and draw your own conclusions on the matter.
What do you think? What did you hear Mario saying during that boss fight? Let us know in the comments.
