Super Mario Maker 2 Doesn’t Support Button Controls While Building In Handheld Mode

Bad news for those of you who primarily play in Handheld Mode – Super Mario Maker 2 isn’t going to support button controls while creating levels in Handheld Mode.

According to an impressions article from Kotaku, the moment the Joy-Con are attached to the system, you can’t use buttons to create and edit levels. Instead, you have to rely on a stylus or finger to slide objects around the screen.

Button controls still work whenever the Joy-Con are detached from the system, so you can still rely on them in Tabletop Mode and TV Mode. Hopefully Nintendo will enable button controls for those who play in Handheld Mode for the majority of the time.

Does this bother you? Let us know in the comments.

UPDATE: According to our friends at Nintenderos, the left stick and right stick could still be used to navigate through the stage while editing in Handheld Mode. However, selecting and adding objects requires touchscreen controls.
