Insurance company Sony Life has published a survey finding out what middle school age children in Japan aspire to be in 2019.
The findings from the survey were pretty incredible, especially for male middle school students living in Japan.
According to the survey, 30% of male middle school students want to become Youtubers or video content creators. The second most desired job is “Pro eSports Player” at 23%, followed by Game Creator at 19%. More traditional jobs, such as IT Engineer/Programmer and Company Management Employee, came in at 16% and 14% respectively.
Sony Life’s findings represent a huge shift in what male middle school students aspire to be. In 2017, the most desired job was IT Engineer/Programmer at 24%, followed by Game Creator at 20%, and Youtuber at 17%.
Female middle school students, on the other hand, aspire to become singers (18%), artists (16%), and doctors (14%). There wasn’t a huge shift in what female middle school students want to be in 2017 and 2019.
