This newest update from Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch is getting frozen in its tracks.
Version 12.0.3 was released just yesterday on June 7th but some issues have caused Nintendo to pause its distribution on the Switch console.
Most updates for the console read as stability improvements for the system with this one being no different. But Nintendo’s support website has announced that the system update distribution will be set on pause for the time being.
Latest version
Ver. 12.0.3 (Distributed June 7, 2021)
Note: As of June 8th, we have temporarily stopped distributing system update version 12.0.3 (released June 7th, 2021 at 5:00 PM PDT). This message will be updated when distribution is resumed.
Did you manage to get the update before the pause? Let us know if you noticed anything in the comments!
[Update]: Nintendo has since clarified the reason why the update was pulled, and it is because it can cause the following issues:
- Switches that have been updated to Version 12.0.3. may be unable to connect to the internet under certain conditions.
- Attempting to use a brand new microSD card on a Version 12.0.3. Switch may trigger an error during the initial setup of the card, making it unable to work with the Switch. Players who have been using a microSD card since before Version 12.0.3. will not be affected.
Nintendo has confirmed they are working on a fix for these issues, but it is currently unknown when a new update will be issued to correct them. We will be sure to report back with more details as they come.
[Update 2]: As of June 9th, Nintendo has resumed the distribution of Version 12.0.3., as discussed in the following Tweet:
We have resumed distribution of system version 12.0.3 of Nintendo Switch, which was suspended. After updating to 12.0.3, if an error occurs while downloading the game software or update data and the download stops, please check the following Q & A.
If you cannot start using the microSDXC card, insert the microSDXC card while connected to the Internet and update the main unit according to the displayed screen. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
