On the brink of its successor’s launch, the Nintendo Switch has reportedly crossed another major sales milestone.
According to analyst Mat Piscatella at Circana, the Switch has just outsold the Playstation 2 in the US with over 46.6 million units sold. This is a major achievement, as the Playstation 2 was the highest selling home console in that region. The Switch is now behind only the Nintendo DS in terms of overall game console sales in the US, with the dual screen handheld sitting at 53.80 million units.
That said, the Playstation 2 is still the world’s highest selling console at 160 million units, and the Switch was at 146.04 million units worldwide as of Nintendo’s last report. It seems unlikely that the Switch will be able to take that crown, given that it will soon be making way for its successor the Switch 2.
