Switch Lite Still Supports Compatible Wireless Controllers, Has Built-in Gyro Controls

With the recent reveal of Nintendo’s latest Switch iteration in the form of Switch Lite, some fans have been asking whether the budget device will still support the wireless controllers made available for the original Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo, on their website, have provided the answer which specifically says that players can still wirelessly connect compatible controllers to the Switch Lite.

“Nintendo Switch Lite can play the games in the Nintendo Switch library that support handheld mode.

For games that do not support handheld mode, players can wirelessly connect compatible controllers (sold separately) to Nintendo Switch Lite. If using separate Joy-Con controllers, users will need to have a device to recharge them, such as the Joy-Con Charging Grip.”

As of press time, confirmed compatible controllers are the Joy-Cons, the Switch Pro Controller, and the Poke Ball Plus. This also technically confirms that the Switch Lite can do tabletop mode, even though it lacks the kickstand. Multiplayer gameplay is also possible.

In addition, the Switch Lite has been confirmed to have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC support and has built-in gyro controls, according to The Verge.

However, since the Switch Lite has no IR Motion Camera, compatibility issues with some games might arise. Games such as Pokemon Let’s Go (which has a motion-enabled catching mechanic option) or 1-2 Switch will require motion controls. Thus, players who would want to play such games will need to purchase additional Joy-Cons separately.

What do you think about the Switch Lite’s cut features? Let us know in the comments!
