Switch Now The Most Successful Platform For Pokemon Mainline Game Sales
Since the arrival of the Nintendo Switch, a total of five sets of Pokemon mainline games have been released for the hybrid console, each famously receiving mixed reception from fans for one reason or another.
Despite the less that stellar reception, the Switch has become the most successful platform of all time for the Pokemon mainline games. As pointed out by Pierre485 on social media, the main series Pokemon games on Switch have shipped over 96 million units as of March 2024, surpassing the numbers sold by the Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles at 75.81 million units. This figure also doesn’t take into account the upcoming Pokemon Legends Z-A, which will no doubt boost the Switch figure by a significant amount.
The Switch is the most successful platform for the Main Pokemon Series with over 96m units shipped so far.
Surpassing the GB and GBA total of 75.81m units.
And that's with another Switch entry to launch in 2025. https://t.co/UbNtLncL51 pic.twitter.com/ElqCoNvIMN— Pierre485 (@pierre485_) May 15, 2024
All that said, the Pokemon mainline games owe much of this success to the Switch’s massive install base, and it seems unlikely that these figures will ever be surpassed again unless the successor system does equally well. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
