Today we have an interesting report from the Wall Street Journal about Tencent, which is helping Nintendo to distribute their products in mainland China.
According to unnamed Tencent officials, the company hopes to leverage their relationship with Nintendo to grow their market in the west, which isn’t as big as their Chinese market at this time. One Tencent official added that they hope to create console games that feature Nintendo characters, similar to how Ubisoft partnered with Nintendo for Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle.
They went further to say they want to learn the secret sauce that makes Nintendo games so great:
“What we want is to expand from China, and one target is console game players in the U.S. and Europe, we hope to create console games with Nintendo characters, and learn the essence of making console games from Nintendo engineers.”
