Terastal Phenomenon And Raid Battles Detailed For Pokemon Scarlet/Violet

During the recent Pokemon Presents, The Pokemon Company revealed a new battle mechanic that will be introduced in Pokemon Scarlet And Violet.

The new mechanic is called the Terastal Phenomenon, and allows players to give their Pokemon a boost to their moves based on its “Tera-Type”. Each Pokemon has a different “Tera-Type”, which remains hidden until they Terastallize in battle. Some Pokemon’s Tera-Type is the same as their original type, while others may have a different one. If a Pokemon has a different Tera-Type from its original type, Terastallizing will change the Pokemon into its Tera-Type.

For example, some Eevee have a Normal Tera-Type, while others might have a Flying Tera-Type. This is similar to how the move Hidden Power worked in previous Pokemon games. In order to Terastallize, players will need to use a special orb item that will need to be recharged after every battle using Terastal energy crystal scattered around the world.

In addition, Pokemon wil rare Terastal types can be encountered in Tera Raid Battles, which work similar to Max Raid Battles from Pokemon Sword And Shield. Players will have to work together with three teammates to battle strong Tera Pokemon, which can then be captured and added to their team. As with Sword And Shield, players will need a paid Nintendo Switch Online subscription to participate in raid battles with their friends.

More details about Terastal Pokemon and Tera Raid Battles can be found on the official website here and here.
