Several individuals have stepped up to dismantle and closely examine what makes these models tick. One of these folks is Kevin Kenson – who has discovered some interesting details in the ‘revised’ Joy-Cons. Check out his analysis below (starts at 13:14):
At first glance, the ‘revised’ Joy-Cons may have different battery models and boards. Additionally, they also seem to use a new housing for the controller sticks – which might be Nintendo’s attempt to alleviate the persistent drifting issue that many players have experienced. As mentioned in the video, it’s hard to tell how well these new internals will fare over time.
Still, this is definitely a nice confirmation that Nintendo hasn’t just completely recycled old parts for these newer Joy-Cons! Hopefully the improvements will go beyond the revised Switch models just having larger battery life.
