On this day five years ago, Nintendo officially revealed their innovative hybrid console – the Nintendo Switch!
Indeed, 20 October 2016 was the first time that gaming fans would learn about the new system (originally codenamed “Nintendo NX”) – which would be able to function seamlessly as both a handheld and a home console. In fact, the official trailer that showed off how flexible the Switch would be is below:
Obviously, this novel concept would strike a chord with gamers worldwide – catapulting the system to massive popularity. The Switch would go on to be the market leader in the US for a whopping 33 months, with most of Nintendo’s first-party titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons going on to sell millions of copies in no time. New variations of the system such as the Switch Lite and Switch (OLED Model)
