The Pokemon Company has established an official subsidiary in Shanghai, China on July 20, 2020.
The subsidiary is called “Pokemon (Shanghai) Toy Company” and is wholly owned by The Pokemon Company. It has 120 million yen (about USD1.1 million) in paid up capital. Records show the company’s business areas include “brand management, toys, animation and amusement products (excluding video games and arcade machines), amusement and entertainment products, digital cultural and creative equipment, daily necessities,” and more.
The establishment of the subsidiary suggests that The Pokemon Company may soon offer Pokemon Center merchandise through more sales channels in China, which could potentially also mean an official Pokemon Center in Shanghai itself. The last two Pokemon subsidiaries established in Singapore and South Korea all had the same objective in mind. We will have to wait and see what happens next.
